The
renowned home to the famous White Tigers of Rewa, Bandhavgarh National Park
is set amidst the Vindhyan Mountain range in the heart of Madhya Pradesh.
Bandhavgarh was formerly a hunting reserve of the royal family of Rewa and
was declared a national park in 1968 and given the status of a tiger reserve
under Project Tiger in 1993.
Bandhavgarh National Park sprawls over an area of 448 sq. kms. and
predominantly consists of Sal Trees, Bamboo Thickets and Grasslands. This
reserve has the highest population of tigers in the country. Within the
Park, stands tall the ruins of Bandhavgarh Fort, believed to be over 2000
years old.

» Rail - The nearest railhead Umaria at 30-kms is on
the Katni-Bilaspur section of South-Eastern Railway.
» Road - Bandhavgarh is situated on the Satna-Umaria
& Rewa-Umaria highway. Madhya Pradesh State Transport Bus Services are
also available from Rewa, Satna, Katni and Umaria.

Dominated
by the lush sal and bamboo forests, grassland and ravines of Kanha National
Park provided inspiration to Rudyard Kipling for his famous novel "Jungle
Book". Kanha National Park was one of the first Project Tiger reserves
in India and is the largest and the most well maintained wildlife sanctuary
in Asia.
The main wildlife attractions in the park are tiger, bison, gaur, sambhar,
chital, barasingha, barking deer, black deer, chousingha, nilgai, jackal
fox, porcupine, hyena, jungle cat, python, pea fowl, and leopard. Moreover,
the national park also has a rich avifaunal population including storks,
teals, pintails, pond herons, egrets, peacock, spur fowl, quails, ring
doves, spotted parakeets, cuckoos, drongos, warblers, kingfishers, and
woodpeckers. It is best to explore this wild reserve on an elephants
back.

Raipur 219-kms. There are regular bus services available from Jabalpur to
Kanha.
